Leo said during his first Homily, who was elected as the Pope, that he would be a “faithful executive” of the church and warned against lowering Jesus to “a charismatic leader or superman.”
He lamented that there are many environments in the modern world where people prefer “technology, money, success, strength or pleasure” more than the Christian faith. “In these contexts, it is not easy to preach the gospel and witness its truth, in which believers are ridiculed, opposed, despised or at best tolerated and pitied,” the new pope said. “However, it is for this reason that they are places where our missionaries are desperately needed to propagate. Lack of faith is often accompanied by loss of meaning in life, neglect of mercy, violation of human dignity, family crises, family crises and many other harms that plague our society.”
