Tesla stops accepting orders for U.S.-made cars in China

Tesla shares fell as it stopped accepting orders in China, both models imported from the U.S. Electric car manufacturers feel the sting of Chinese tariffs. Yahoo Finance's PRAS Subramanian joins us now. So, PRAS, we've obviously seen what's going on and there's a big ripple effect, and this is Tesla's latest example.

Yes, you know you see these retaliatory tariffs in China, with US imports 125% imposing Chinese tariffs, which makes them uncompetitive, right? So for Tesla's high-end models, the Model X and Model S EVS made in California have withdrawn from Tesla's website. These cars cost about $100,000 or equivalent in China, and if the tariffs were placed on it, it would cost twice the amount, so that would be untenable for them. So you know Tesla sold about 2,000 of these vehicles last year, so it wasn't a big pusher for them, but that highlights the instability of Tesla and other automakers now finding themselves in this post-trade war world.

My friend PRAS, new price for Seboruk. What are the details of PRA that can help with the needs?
01:45 Pras
You know, Josh, I know you're looking at a pickup truck yourself, but it's not that this truck works for you, but the long-distance variant is out. This is basically a truck, priced at $69,000, which is $10,000 less than the cheapest all-wheel drive at present. Basically, you're getting, you're getting a solid-wheel drive motor, not an all-wheel drive system. The 350-mile range isn't bad, but you get less towing capacity, seats, no retractable Tolno cover, which they call the back. And it was useless. The socket on the back, the socket on the bed disappeared. So this didn't happen either. So, you know, is moving the needle enough? With the tax credit, you're very competitive and you can reach $62,000, but you correspond to the Rivian R1T and F150 Lightning, which are powerful trucks without Musk and Tesla branded luggage if you want. It's hard to say whether this cheap truck will help them, according to Cox Auto Sales, the Cybertruck in Q1 cut in half compared to the fourth quarter. So it's a long way to go there.

PRAS, thank you. Josh, are you watching a pickup truck?
03:28 Josh Lipton
I am. I've been chatting with PRAS. Well, I hope Pras may know that he knows some people. He is a connected person. That's why I keep talking.
