Anaheim Ducks Named Dave Manson Head coach of the American Hockey League affiliate San Diego Gulls.
also, Kelly Buchberg and Steve McCarthy Appointed assistant coach, joins goalkeeping coach Jeff Glass and video coordinator Lucas Hurt.
This is the first head coaching position for Manson, who has served as an assistant or associate coach for the past 24 years since retiring in 2002. Manson, 59, served as an assistant coach with the Seagulls last season, helping the team reach the Calder Cup playoffs for the first time since 2022.
Manson previously served as an assistant coach with the Bakersfield Condors for four seasons before being promoted to the Edmonton Oilers with the head coach Jay Woodcroft February 10, 2022. He spent the majority of his coaching career with the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League, serving as an assistant coach from 2002-09 and as an associate coach from 2012-18. He also spent three seasons with the Prince Albert Mintos Class AAA midget program.
The native of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan played 1,103 NHL games in 16 professional seasons, skating for Chicago, Edmonton, Winnipeg/Phoenix, Montreal, Chicago, Dallas and Toronto.
Buchberg, 59, returns to the AHL and most recently served as an assistant coach with the Laval Rocket from 2021-24, helping the team reach the 2022 Eastern Conference Finals.
Buchberg spent 13 seasons with the Edmonton Oilers from 2004 to 2017 in various roles, including head coach of the AHL Springfield Falcons (2007-08) and assistant coach of the AHL Edmonton Road Runners (2004-05). He also served as an assistant coach with the Oilers from 2008-14 and served as director of player development.
McCarthy, 45, has played 10 seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets and served as an assistant coach with the Cleveland Monsters from 2016-21 before being promoted to the same position with the Blue Jackets.
McCarthy appeared in 191 AHL games in 16 professional seasons, skating for Norfolk, Chicago, Abbotsford, Springfield, Iowa State and Lake Erie. He also played in 302 NHL games with Chicago, Vancouver and Atlanta.
