Tyler Herro says he’s ready to put behind last week’s altercation with former Miami Heat teammate Bam Adebayo and focus entirely on his future with the Milwaukee Bucks.
“Honestly, I just wanted to get away from it all,” Herro told ESPN. “I’m focused on Milwaukee and building something special. They obviously just traded their greatest player in history, so we want to come in and help them continue what they’ve been doing.”
He also admitted that if he were to leave Miami, returning home would always be the ideal outcome.
“I’m ready to go home and not prove everybody wrong,” he said, “but just be able to represent this city and this state because that’s what I want to do when I leave school, too.”
A few days ago, ESPN reporter Shams Charania reported that Herro and Adebayo got into a physical altercation at Resorts World Las Vegas.
According to ESPN, Adebayo reached out to Herro after taking issue with comments on social media accounts allegedly related to the Bucks guard. The account questioned whether Adebayo was worth his $60 million salary and suggested Herro needed more support during his injury-plagued time in Miami.
Sources told ESPN that after the two talked, the conflict escalated and Adebayo hit Herro near the chin. Herro was reportedly restrained by others in the gym before he could react physically.
Despite the incident, Herro insists there is no lingering animosity toward his former organization.
“There’s a lot of love in Miami,” Herro said when asked if he felt awkward meeting his former team. “I’ve met a few people, the coaching staff, Chris Quinn, Spoelstra [Erik Spoelstra]the front desk staff; we have all been great in Miami. It’s an opportunity for both parties to start over, to make a fresh start, and both parties are very happy with it. “
