Bruins player Mugginer joins Vancouver | TheAHL.com

Ryan Mognell Hired as assistant coach for the Vancouver Canucks.

Mouginer, who was named the 2025-26 AHL Outstanding Coach of the Year Louis A.R. Pieri Memorial Award winner, has spent the past eight seasons with the Providence Bruins, five of them as head coach. Last season, he led the Bruins to the McGregor Kilpatrick Trophy with a 54-16-2-0 record (110 points) and the fourth-highest scoring percentage (.764) in AHL history.

Mugginer, 50, was promoted to head coach in Providence on Aug. 13, 2021, and compiled a 217-103-26-14 (.658) record, the AHL’s best mark in the past five years. He coached a total of 13 seasons in the AHL, serving as an assistant coach in Hershey (2013-14), Worcester (2014-15), San Jose (2015-18) and Providence (2018-21).

Mugnell joins new Vancouver head coach’s staff Manny Malhotra with other assistants Jordan Smith and Jason Krogerand video coaching assistants Andrew Shaw.

Smith spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach with the Abbotsford Canucks under Malhotra, helping the team win the Calder Cup in 2024.25. He joins Abbotsford after spending his first two seasons with the Springfield Thunderbirds.

Kroger spent the past two seasons as a skills and skating coach in Vancouver and Abbotsford.

Shaw spent his first two seasons at Abbotsford as the team’s video coach.
