The first Mormon temple in Jacksonville came to Mandarin. See what it will look like

Plans for the first Mormon temple in Jacksonville are officially in progress and a location and rendering has been announced.

The church announced plans to cover a 6.6-acre property at 3323 Loreto Road, Mandarin.

Described as “a single-story building of approximately 29,000 square feet” with a connected central tower, two command rooms, two sealed rooms and a baptism, it will be the fifth LDS temple in Florida.

According to the church, the state already has more than 170,000 Latter-day Saints and more than 270 congregations.

According to the Church of Jesus Christ, the church has built 55 temples around the world, and 110 temples have been announced in its 367, which the church notes that this is not “not the official website of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”

The groundbreaking date for the Jacksonville project has not been announced yet.

Russell M. Nelson, president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, initially announced plans to build the temple and 17 other locations in Jacksonville.

“I promise that the added time in the temple will bless your life in other ways,” he said in 2022.

Other temples at the time of the announcement include the Orlando Temple, Florida; Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple; Talahassee Florida Temple, which opened in late 2024; and Tampa Florida Temple, which appears to be located in Jacksonville on its construction schedule.

Although the site was not announced until February, the first rendering of the Florida Temple was released in December.

“For members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the temple is the holiest place of worship on earth,” the website says. “This is the house of Jehovah.”
