A combustion device explodes outside the Russian consulate in Marseille, France

PARIS (AP) – The burning device that authorities exploded outside the Russian consulate in Marseille earlier Monday commemorated the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. No injuries.
A second device was also thrown on the outer wall of the consulate, without explosion and landing on the sidewalk. A bomb disposal expert was called to the scene.
An official said the suspect fled and investigated. Authorities did not provide detailed information about the suspect or motive.

Marseille is France's second largest city and major Mediterranean port, and is home to a diverse population, but does not have a large Russian community. France has protested several times since 2022 against the war in Ukraine, including demonstrations in Marseille, Paris and other cities.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Maria Zakharova said the incident in Marseille “has all the signs of a terrorist attack.”
