Organizations seek guidance on the latest Musk OPM emails, some urging employees to postpone responses
On Saturday, an email directed by Elon Musk of the Office of Personnel Management appeared to be caught off guard by multiple federal agencies, asking employees to detail their weekly achievements.
Multiple sources say administrators at multiple agencies have begun notifying employees that they are awaiting further guidance and, in some cases, telling them to postpone their responses.
These agencies include the Federal Emergency Administration, the IRS, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Department of Energy.

The Pentagon also directs civilian employees to wait for legal guidance before responding.
Some law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, have also instructed employees to “suspend” any response to OPM emails.
Later, Chad CaryAdr. ChadCary said in an email to all NOAA staff members obtained by ABC News that the information “surprised all departments and NOAA leaders are seeking guidance.”
Cary also advises not to submit anything by Monday in case of additional guidance.
FEMA employees were also instructed to delay response, sources told ABC News.
At the IRS, the acting specialist told staff that officials were awaiting guidance from the Treasury Department on emails—but no special advice on whether or not to respond.

“We know that employees have started receiving the email below from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). We have contacted the Treasury for guidance and will share additional information on Monday,” ABC News received the email.
Some CDC employees told ABC News that their team is still waiting for guidance from agent leaders. One employee said their manager recommended waiting until Monday – hoping to receive more details about the process.
Department of Energy employees also received direct management emails telling them they are still waiting for more details.
OPM email and subject line “What did you do last week” directed employees to briefly put up a brief list of about five achievements over the past week, 11:59 pm on Monday.

The email posted by Musk on X is that an email from a federal employee who cannot reply to the email will be considered resigned.
Late last month, an email was sent to almost the entire federal workforce with a subject line “fork” that provided employees with the option of “deferred resignation” that could leave their jobs but continue to charge their salary by September. .
About 75,000 federal employees accepted the buyout offer.
