Kelli Bryant, 34, sometimes shook his head when he first appeared in court for child abuse charges in Oakland County. Her attorney pleaded not guilty on behalf of her.
Police said three 15, 13 and 12-year-olds were removed from a Pontiac house last week, living alone in garbage and feces since 2020 or 2021. , occasional food falls on the porch.
Defense attorney Cecilia Quirindongo-Baunsoe admitted to “a very serious case,” but said Bryant was not a risk to the community and could be released from prison through electronic surveillance devices.
But Judge Ronda Fowlkes Gross set up extraordinary cash bonds and said Kobe was an “acute risk” to the public.
The children were hiding when police entered the house on Friday after the landlord called and had not been paid since October. Authorities said the toilets did not work and feces were found in bathtubs and elsewhere. Kobe lives elsewhere in Pontiac.
“There are a lot of reasons why they didn't leave the house,” Prosecutor Karen McDonald said of the siblings. “We just don't know.”
