1968 Mercury Cougar features a unique fast back design

This 1968 custom Mercury Cougar is a quick defender and can be glimpsed what could have been, but it isn't. Maybe it would have been understood back then that only the Mustang could have such a design, but if Mercury had created something like this, how would it grow in the market. We will never be sure.

The 64-year-old Ford Galaxie hit hard with the Shelby Big Block.

All we know is that the creations from JF Kustoms from Canada certainly look great. The designer said he wanted to build such a car for a long time and he only needed a customer who wanted it. When this finally happened, the guy sent out his creativity and pure magic.

He told Autopia LA that he wanted to use the car as a believable concept from the late 60s, from engine to paint and interior, but with a modern touch. We think he nailed the vibe.

Under the hood is the Boss 9 Big Block V8, which will aspirate naturally at about 770 horsepower. Supporting it is a Tremec 5-speed, and it's nice to see because today even many custom classic muscle cars come with automation. There is also a 9-inch Ford, and the Chevrolet guy uses the same thing.

Interestingly, the Cougar has been saved as one. However, the chassis has many reinforcement elements, increasing torsional stiffness to improve handling. The suspension and subframe are shop-made, and so are the stainless steel, polished exhaust systems.

Considering that this building could have been affluent, the interior design exhibited surprising restraint. There are good details, but it does look like something Mercury might have done in that era, including the use of planks and the same green as the body. They even added small details like the ashtray.

You do need to watch the video reviews to fully appreciate the car. Plus, you can see it tear a little burnout and donuts apart.
