LeBron James isn’t ready to reveal where he’ll play next season, but the NBA’s biggest free agent made it clear the wait won’t be long.
Despite repeated attempts by guest host Tyrese Haliburton and viewers to get answers, James refused to reveal his next destination.
“Are there any decisions left that need to be made?” Haliburton asked during a live taping of the Mind the Game podcast at Fanatics Fest in New York City, minutes into the show before about 5,000 people gathered in front of the Javits Center Stage.
“Rese, we did talk about it back there,” James said, reiterating that revealing his next team would not be on the agenda.
However, later in the day, James hinted that an announcement might not be far away.
“I won’t keep you too long,” James said.
While James has remained tight-lipped about his destination, he has publicly stated that he is seriously approaching the final chapter of his career.
“This is a huge issue and some of the media people here should probably learn from you, young man,” James said. “How I feel about free agency, obviously it’s a big decision. This is the fourth time in my career that I’m going to be a free agent. So it’s a big decision not just for myself, but for my family and the last part of my career and where I want to spend my last few years.
“Wherever I go, my main thing is, I’m a natural leader. I’m going to try to fit in with any team that I go to, but also give them all the tools and give them all the knowledge that I’ve been able to acquire over the past 23 years. I know the game. I know the ins and outs of the game of basketball.”
At present, suspense still exists, but James left the fans with a final promise.
“But it’s going to be fun,” James said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun. Wherever I land, I’m going to do what I do best.”
