Colorado Avalanche hired Yossi Ahokas Serves as head coach of the Colorado Eagles, an American Hockey League affiliate.
Ahokas, 45, spent three seasons as head coach of the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League before joining the Eagles, where they won a Memorial Cup championship in 2025-26. Ahokas was also named the 2024-25 OHL Coach of the Year.
Ahokas was one of the most decorated coaches in European professional hockey during his 20 years on the bench in his native Finland. He coached Finland’s youth teams for 15 seasons, including 7 years as head coach of the national team at the U-16 to U-20 levels. Ahokas helped Finland win gold medals at the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship and the 2016 IIHF World U-18 Championship.
Ahokas also served as the head coach of Finland’s top professional league KooKoo (2019-21) and TPS (2021-23), spending four seasons in Finland’s top professional league and winning the league’s Coach of the Year honors in 2019-20.
