Springfield, Massachusetts … The American Hockey League today released its complete schedule for the 2026-27 regular season, the league’s 91st year of operation. There are 32 teams participating this season, with each team playing 72 games, for a total of 1,152 games. Friday, October 2 and draw conclusions Sunday, April 11.

The 2026-27 schedule is worth noting:
- The regular season will begin on October 2 with a total of eight games, the earliest start date since 2009, and the league will have a total of 30 games in the first weekend.

The American Hockey League was officially born in 1936, when the Canadian-American Hockey League and the International Hockey League merged to form the International-American Hockey League (the word “International” was dropped from the league’s name in 1940). The AHL continues to serve as the top developmental league for all 32 National Hockey League teams; today, nearly 90 percent of NHL players are American Hockey League graduates, and more than 100 honorary members of the Hockey Hall of Fame have spent their careers in the AHL.
