New Warriors’ Axel Lundenburg says he ‘used to hate Steph Curry’

Michigan wing Axel Lundberg went viral for his comments about Stephen Curry on his first day with the Golden State Warriors.

When asked about the Warriors legend, the No. 11 overall pick told the media: “I’m a great Kyrie [Irving] Guy. So I used to hate Steph Curry. “

However, he was quick to praise the four-time Warriors champion.

“So now that I’m actually getting to be on the same team as him, play together and learn a lot from him, it means a lot,” Lundborg said. “I’ve met him a few times. He’s a really good guy, genuine guy. It’s going to be an honor to be able to see what he does. So, I’m very excited.”

Stephen himself must have seen the comments, because he gave a hilarious response to a post on Lundenburg’s Instagram page.

“Let’s go! Welcome to the Bay! I’ll try to be your new favorite player [laughing emoji],” Curry wrote.

Lundborg was also excited about playing with Draymond Green in the frontcourt, but decided to give the veteran a little shade.

“I know he’s a Michigan State guy,” Lundborg said. “I don’t really like that. But I’m super excited to meet him and talk to him in person and learn. Learn everything I can.”

As the Golden State Warriors wait for their next draft pick, they start fielding calls from competitors interested in making trades.

ESPN captured the moment on camera and showed the world Dunleavy’s heated discussion with controlling owner Joe Lacob.

The general manager downplayed it.

“We talked about the best golf courses in San Francisco,” Dunleavy said. “He disagreed with me.”

He went on to explain that the conversation had more to do with trade options and Lacob’s anxiety about finalizing the pick on time.

“Ultimately we all agreed to capture Axel,” Dunleavy said.
