New York Islanders Team Named Jay McGee Head coach of the Hamilton Hammers, the Islanders’ new American Hockey League affiliate.
McGee, 48, has spent the past five years as head coach of the Hamilton and Brantford Bulldogs of the Ontario Hockey League. Last season, McGee led Brantford to achieve the best record in the OHL (48 wins, 10 draws, 8 losses and 2 losses), and in the 2021-22 season, he coached Hamilton to win the league championship and secure a spot in the Memorial Cup tournament.
McGee previously served as the head coach of the Kitchener Rangers from 2016 to 2020 and served as an assistant coach in Kitchener and Erie. During the 2011-12 season, he served as an assistant coach for the AHL Rochester Americans.
McGee’s career spanned 14 seasons, including 802 games in the NHL with Buffalo, St. Louis and Pittsburgh. The defenseman also played 24 games in the AHL with Rochester after being drafted by the Sabers in the first round of the 1995 NHL Draft.
