Kevin Durant reflects on retirement timeline after passing Michael Jordan in scoring

Kevin Durant had a huge night on Saturday night to pass Michael Jordan for fifth place on the NBA's all-time scoring list, leaving him wondering how much longer he can last in the league.

After the game, Durant was asked about his favorite memory of Jordan or his best interaction with Jordan himself.

“No. That's like asking me if I have a favorite Drake song,” he said. “No, they were all great. MJ had a lot of great moments. He was just the symbolic embodiment of God — everything that I believe in, he personified.”

It also got Durant thinking about his limited time in the league.

“There will come a time when this is no longer my position, and we're slowly getting closer to that moment,” Durant said during the boardroom conversation. “As the season ends, it's crazy to think about it… This is what I do every day. It's part of my daily routine. That's the center of my life, and that's competing. So, you know, hopefully there's still a few years left to do this and have to start getting ready for the next level.”

The Rockets star has already surpassed Wilt Chamberlain (31,419) and Dirk Nowitzki (31,560) this season before rising again on Saturday.

The next to pass was Kobe Bryant, who finished fourth in the game with “four more to go,” he told reporters after the game.

Rockets head coach Ime Udoka said of Durant: “It's an honor for everybody to be a part of it. As Durant has said in the past, I don't think he cares too much about it right now. He's really focused on this season and what we want to accomplish, but I don't want to just have it as an afterthought. To pass Michael Jordan is obviously a huge accomplishment and we celebrated that with him.”

His Hall of Fame spot awaits him whenever he decides to ride off into the sunset.
