Griffins' Brandseger-Nygaard named AHL Player of the Week TheAHL.com

Springfield, Massachusetts …American Hockey League announced today Grand Rapids Griffins forward Michael Brandsegg-Nygaard has been selected as Howies Hockey Video/AHL Player of the Week Period ending March 1, 2026.
In three games for the Griffins last week, Brandsegg-Nygaard had five goals on 17 shots and a total of six points.
Brandsegg-Nygaard scored both of the Griffins' goals in a 3-2 overtime loss to Manitoba on Wednesday night, then scored again in Friday's 3-2 loss to Iowa State. He ended the week with his first career 3-pointer and added two more goals and an assist as Grand Rapids beat the Wild 6-2 in Saturday's rematch.
Brandseger-Nygaard, who was selected by Detroit with the 15th overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, has 15 goals and 19 assists for 34 points and a 21-plus rating in 48 games with Grand Rapids this season and has one assist in nine appearances for the Red Wings after making his NHL debut on October 9, 2025. The 20-year-old native of Oslo, Norway ranks fifth on the AHL rookie scoring list and is tied for third with six game-winning goals this season.
