Despite rumors, Wizards remain optimistic Anthony Davis will play this season

The Washington Wizards remain optimistic about Anthony Davis' debut with the team, despite reports that the All-Star big man may miss the remainder of the season.
Davis, acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Dallas Mavericks, has yet to play for Washington while still recovering from a finger injury that has sidelined him since early January.
Despite speculation that the team could delay his return until next season, Wizards general manager Will Dawkins made it clear that the organization is not ruling out a debut in 2025-26.
“AD’s plan now is to return to Dallas and complete his rehab,” Dawkins said, via The Athletic . “He has a really good team there. Our doctors met with them and our medical staff will go down with him. So, we want to keep the good things he has going.”
Even if Davis doesn't return to play this season, the Wizards expect him to remain closely involved with the team moving forward.
Dawkins confirmed the expectation that Davis will remain with the team after the All-Star break regardless of his playing status, signaling the team's commitment to including him in future plans.
The uncertainty surrounding Davis intensified after Chris Haynes reported that the 10-time All-Star is expected to miss the remainder of the season and focus on being fully healthy heading into the 2026-27 season.
The 32-year-old has played in just 20 games for Dallas this season, which would be the fewest of his career if he doesn't return.

Washington's long-term vision focuses on Davis building a veteran partnership with star guard Trae Young, who is also out with an injury.
Young has been out since late December with MCL and quadriceps issues, further complicating the Wizards' situation this season but potentially strengthening their position in the upcoming draft.
