Steve Kerr slams government response after Minneapolis ICE shooting

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has issued his strongest criticism yet of the U.S. federal government's response to the shooting of Renee Nicole Goode.

Kerr spoke before Golden State's game against the Sacramento Kings at Chase Center and addressed the aftermath of Goode's death. Goode was a 37-year-old woman who was shot and killed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents on a residential street in Minneapolis.

The video footage and eyewitness accounts sparked nationwide protests and heightened scrutiny of federal immigration enforcement tactics.

“I'm glad the Timberwolves recognize the tragedy of her life and her death,” Kerr said. “It is truly disgraceful that in our country law enforcement officers commit murder and appear to get away with it.

“It's disgraceful that the government would come out and lie about what happened when there's video and witnesses coming forward to dispute what the government is saying. So to lose anyone's life is very demoralizing and devastating, especially in this way. So it's horrific and very sad for her family, for her and for the city, and I'm glad the Timberwolves came out and expressed that sadness.”

Kerr's comments were echoed days later by Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers, who spoke candidly during his pregame press conference before the team's game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

“I don't think it's necessarily the athletes,” said Sports Bible reporter Luke Davis. “I don't think it's necessarily celebrities. I think regular people, all of us, should speak up if we think something is morally wrong,” Rivers said. “In my opinion, what happened in Minnesota was a straight up murder. It's horrific. This woman probably wanted to go home, but she didn't, and that's really sad.”
