Bill Simmons proposes wild Stephen Curry homecoming trade idea

The idea of Stephen Curry ending his career anywhere but Golden State seemed unthinkable for a time.
But, according to Bill Simmons, the Warriors' current trajectory opens the door to a conversation that once sounded ridiculous: sending Curry back to Charlotte.
“Have we reached the point where we're going from Curry to Charlotte, should we?” Simmons asked on a recent episode of his podcast. “Can the league intervene? I don't want to upset the fans. I don't want to trade Steph Curry on Christmas. But he grew up there, his dad was there, there's footage of him on the court as a kid, and he always joked about ending his career there. I just don't think this Warriors team has a chance. We just saw Draymond explode last time. Can we send Curry back to Charlotte like LaMelo and a bunch of draft picks? Let's go, let's do that?”

The connection to Charlotte has lingered behind the scenes of Curry’s career.
He was born in Cleveland and grew up in North Carolina while his father, Dell Curry, was a long-time player with the Hornets, where Dell became a beloved figure and eventually the all-time leading scorer.
Simmons' guest, ESPN analyst Tim Legler, took that hypothesis a step further, focusing on what Curry means to Charlotte's future, not just its nostalgia.
“Think about what you're saying now,” Legler said. “You're talking about Curry and Knuupel's Splash Brothers 2.0, like a new version of it.”
