Giannis Antetokounmpo out with groin injury in loss to Cavaliers

Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is expected to miss multiple games after suffering a groin strain in Monday night's 118-106 loss to the Cavaliers.

The injury immediately changed the momentum of the game and Milwaukee's early-season offense.

Bucks head coach Doc Rivers provided the first update on Tuesday, telling ESPN Milwaukee that his star will be out “probably two weeks.” He added, “I don't know what the grade is, but I know it's not a bad grade, so that's good news for us… He'll probably miss two weeks – hopefully less.”

Antetokounmpo went down while trying to tackle Jarrett Allen late in the second quarter at Rocket Arena.

After missing a layup, he landed awkwardly and immediately reached for his groin. Although he briefly stayed in the game, his movement wasn't natural. As soon as the whistle blew, he headed straight to the locker room. He did not return and was later ruled out at halftime with a left groin strain.

Before exiting the game, Giannis scored 14 points and 5 rebounds, leading the Bucks in the first half. He averaged 32.6 points per game last game, ranking second in the league behind Luka Doncic, along with 11.3 rebounds and 7.1 assists.

The loss marked Milwaukee's second straight loss, which dropped to 8-7 on the season.

Ryan Rollins scored a Bucks-high 24 points on 5-for-10 shooting, while Myles Turner added 15 points and 7 rebounds.

Cleveland improved to 10-5 on the back of Donovan Mitchell's 37 points and seven assists.
