New York Rangers send top prospect Gabe Perreault to AHL HARTFORD WOLF PACK

Gabe Perreault is one of the most exciting talents in the New York Rangers' prospects system. Last season, he tasted the NHL and had five games against the Rangers. However, on Friday, the team decided to send the 2023 first-round picks to the Hartford Wolves for additional development time in the AHL.

Perreault will join the Wolf Pack with elevated pedigree. He set a record for national team development programs in one season in the draft year, scoring 132-15 points higher than previous record holder Auston Matthews.

He also had two high-production seasons at Boston College, scoring 108 points in 73 games with the Hawks. On top of that, Perreault is a two-time gold medalist at the World Youth Championship, scoring 20 points in 14 matches. He also won the gold medal in the Under-18 World Championship.

Perreault's young career has been well decorated, but he can also be made up as a professional player.

That's why going to Hartford at this point is probably his best place. Perreault may be part of the Rangers in the near future, but Wolf Pack’s role is getting far better than his progression than entering and exiting the roster, playing a deep role in big clubs.

Perreault lacks typical NHL sizes, and his skating is closer to average, but he has an elite brain. He was one of the smartest players I’ve watched in years as far as his offense was concerned, and he put himself there when he didn’t have the puck and all the decisions that could order quickly.

Perreault will get the chance if his track record shows any signs, like he has done elsewhere, he will be producing.

The AHL can be a challenging league to find time and space, which will be a great league for a player who has never had a lot of trouble in the department.

At the age of 20, Perreault still has a lot of tracks to grow into its own race and find professional legs. Fans may wish to be able to get into big clubs faster, but the threshold to prosper at the NHL level at a young age is a little higher than Perreault is now.

In addition to Perreault, the Rangers also sent Scott Morrow to Hartford. Morrow is the key piece to trade K'Andre Miller to the Carolina Hurricane. Morrow was the AHL All-Star Game last season and was selected as the league's highest prospects team. These are two big pickups from Hartford who want to prepare for their season.

Wolf Pack will open their season on Oct. 11 on the road with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. You can watch the game on FloHockey.
