LeBron James pushes bold NBA changes

LeBron James believes the NBA can use one or two adjustments.

The four-time NBA champion made it clear that he was open to major changes that would bring the league closer to FIBA-style games.

“This 40-minute game is fun,” James said in a recent episode. Mind the game Podcast with Steve Nash. “Because the game happens so quickly…and, it makes it a little more pressing. It's something to discuss. It's something we might have conversations. It's hard because you start messing with the history of the game and all of this stuff…all of this stuff…I've always loved the gatekeeper. I really like it.

James' proposal is in line with earlier comments from NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, who previously proposed the idea of shortening the game, but LeBron's influence clearly adds the weight of the conversation.

Aside from the schedule, James proposed a rule that could inspire casual fans, especially in terms of rebounds and tips later in the season.

Of course, changing the time of the game can lead to complications. NBA statistics, records and the entire history have been established for 48 minutes. Lowering it for eight minutes will greatly affect score averages, milestones and fan expectations, including ticket value.

But James is not the one who is afraid of evolution.

He has played more time than anyone in NBA history, and even now, his third decade into the league, he has been pushing the game to be better than just staying the same.
