Kevin Durant may have San Antonio hovering over his wish list, but that doesn't mean the Spurs are sprinting on the trade table.
According to Shams Charania, the Spurs were “interested” in the two finals MVP, but were “not a radical team” in their talks with the Suns.
“I think they do stock up on their assets because there might be a bigger move, a bigger player, someone who might fit the schedule,” Charania said Pat McAfee Show.
This is not to say they are out. Shams made this clear.
“They want to do a similar run and with [former Spurs general manager and current team CEO] RC Buford and Gregg Popovich,” Charania said: “In their minds, they have a lot of assets where they go, and if there is someone available on the schedule, you might go out and make the deal. That's not to say they have no interest in Kevin Durant. They do so. They may make an offer, and I'm sure they've discussed different frameworks, but the products offered by other teams are more aggressive. ”
The Spurs are in the middle of building something real. They have a Victor Wembanyama of a generation. De'aaron Fox was at his peak at the age of 27. Stephon Castle just won Rookie of the Year. In addition, they have the second pick and the No. 14 pick in this year's draft.
Durant remains an elite, with an average of 26.6 points, six innings and 4.2 assists last season. But for the Spurs, it's not just talent. It's about timing.
Now, it seems they are bringing their assets close to their chests.
