Police say they have resolved the 1980 cold-cut murder case – after the first suspect mistakenly stayed in jail for 20 years
Police said a woman has identified a suspect after being stabbed 30 times in her home and killed for more than 40 years.
The news comes 20 years after another man mistakenly killed him.
This week, the Massachusetts District Attorney’s Office announced the development of the 1980 murder of Katharina Reitz Brow. Authorities now say Joseph Leo Boudreau is the killer. He was 37 years old at the time of murder and died in 2004.

Her home showed signs of her wallet and “big money” being lost. Investigators found the knife in the waste basket.
Kenneth Waters was arrested a year after the killing and was convicted in 1983. However, he was exempted when it was determined in 2001 that his DNA was not in the bloodstains on the scene.
When he was arrested, his blood type matched the bloodstain. However, technological developments have led to better DNA testing and have not proven water on site.

In 2022, investigators studied the case again. They were able to test the DNA and link it to the suspect's relatives. Prosecutors said this led to Budro being identified as the killer. In 1975, he was convicted of armed robbery for six years in the murder.
Police said there was no connection between Budro and Walters.
“No matter how much time it takes, our priority remains the same and answers can be sought. In this case, this means identifying the person responsible for Mrs. Tobu’s death, even if they can no longer be held accountable through the criminal system.
Al Police Chief Brian Gill added: “The breakthrough in the investigation is emerging, forensic investigation into the evidence that genetic lineage DNA testing was applied to site recycling.
