FOX 5/kusi – Firefighters are fighting a brush fire in Carlsbad that broke out Thursday afternoon.

The fire, known as the “Claro Fire”, reportedly blows smoke into the air at around 2:44 pm in the areas of Corte Claro and Paseo Encino, as captured by nearby residents.

As of 4 p.m., flames burned 40 acres in the canyon behind the houses in San Marcos, according to Cal Fire.

Crews on the ground said it is moving at medium interest rates, despite being considered a direct threat to life and property at present, according to the county’s emergency alert system.

According to the department’s incident map, multiple units responded to the fire, including several air tactical units from the California Fire Department in San Diego.

At about 3:40 pm, two communities at the foot of Danke Tank Mountain were issued evacuation orders, south of Rancho Santa Fe Road and San Elijo Road.

Two other communities in the San Elijo Hills area were also warned of evacuation. The warning is made by the SD Aqueduct Service Road in the east, the San Ilicho Road in the south and the Rancho Santa Fe Road in the west.

A temporary evacuation site was established at Stagecoach Park, located at 3420 Camino de Los Coches.

The Carlsbad Police Department is urging people to avoid areas where firefighters respond.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. At present, it is not clear whether buildings in the area have suffered any damage.
