Caught out of control pet zebra in Tennessee

MERFRISBORO, Tenn. (AP) — Authorities say it was scattered in Tennessee for more than a week and was captured on Sunday.

The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Ed Zebra was securely captured after being secured by a ranch near a subdivision in the Christiana community in central Tennessee. The sheriff's office said aviation personnel captured the zebra.

“Ed was flew up by a helicopter and flew back to the waiting animal trailer,” the sheriff's office said in a statement.

Video released by the sheriff's office showed Ed's head sticking out when he was carried to the trailer by a helicopter.

Ed arrived in Christiana on May 30, the sheriff's office said. His master reported that he missed the next day.

The zebra was spotted and ran on Interstate 24, forcing deputies to close the road. But Ed escaped to a wooded area.

There were several witnesses on social media. Ed was photographed in a nearby trot.

Zebras quickly became the subject of internet memes. A fake post shows Ed dining in a waffle house with a southern staple food. Others asked him to visit other Tennessee cities or do renovations on the roadside.

The pursuit of Ed is a month after the runway Kangaroo closes the Alabama Interstate.
