One arrested in Augusta's largest methamphetamine seizure

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office recently implemented what they call the largest methamphetamine seizure in the history of the Augusta area.

“Over the past few months, investigators from the Richmond Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division have been conducting in-depth investigations into drug trafficking organizations linked to Jaquez Sturgis,” the Sheriff's Office noted in the press release. “Sturgis has been identified as the main distributor of methamphetamine and fentanyl in the Augusta-Richmond County area.”

The weekend's drug bankruptcy was the culmination of a six-month investigation by the Sheriff's Narcotics and Crime Suppression Division. Representatives' address at the 200 block of East Hale Street, the 100 block of Tyby Court and the 1300 block of Mark Church Road. Investigators confiscated:

  • 20,100.08 g methamphetamine

  • 2,345.6g fentanyl

  • $18,346.00 US currency

Jaquez Sturgis was arrested and charged with trafficking in methamphetamine and fentanyl during a crime and possession of firearms, and further charges were filed, the release said.

“I want to thank and commend our Department of Narcotics and the criminal justice department for the outstanding work,” Sheriff Gino Brantley said in a statement. “This seizure is not only historic in scope, it represents potential lives, rescued from deadly overdoses and protects against violence often accompanied by the drug trade.

“Our goal is to pursue relentlessly those who poison our community with these deadly substances. I cannot be proud of the relentless efforts made by investigators and every representative involved in this action.”

Authorities noted that as the investigation continues, more arrests may occur.
