The woman who possessed Elizabeth Smart captive and promoted her husband's sexual assault on the teenager was arrested and charged with violating the conditions for her release.
Wanda Barzee, 79, was detained by Salt Lake City police on Thursday morning, May 1, and allegedly found she had visited the local park.
Salt Lake City Police Department spokesman Brent Weisberg told people that Barzee was booked at the Salt Lake County Metro Jail for “a count of restricting registered sex offenders from entering protected areas including public parks in violation of Utah law.”
“Detectives allegedly visited at least two parks in Salt Lake City, including Liberty Park and Sugar House Park, to arrest the arrest in violation of state law,” Wesberg said.
Barzee is no longer in custody, and court records show her release was brought by a judicial order.
