Springfield, Massachusetts. …The American Hockey League today announced the Utica Comet’s advance Max Wellman Has been selected as Howies Hockey Tape/AHL Players of the Week During the period ending April 6, 2025.
Willman recorded four goals and four assists for the Comets in three games last week, scoring eight points.
Willman started an impressive week Wednesday morning when he scored a brief goal in a 2-1 overtime win on a campus in Toronto. Back home on Friday, Utica scored a goal and two assists when he beat Springfield 5-2. Willman scored two goals and two assists in his first professional four-pointer game against Providence Saturday night, which gave the Comets a 6-4 victory.
Willman scored a career-high 29 points in 64 games in Utica this season with a total of 10 goals and 19 assists. The sixth-grade pro from Barnstable, Massachusetts, appeared in 239 AHL games with Utica and Lehigh Valley, with a total of 54 goals and 64 assists and 118 points. Willman was originally selected by Buffalo in the fifth round of the 2014 NHL Draft, scoring seven goals and three assists in 68 professional NHL games against Philadelphia and New Jersey.
