In Ukraine, wounded warriors mocked the idea that Trump could bring peace with Russia

It almost tore his legs apart when Russian shells exploded beside 36-year-old Serhii 19 months ago while he was on the front line in Donetsk.
After more than a dozen surgeries, he was finally able to drill into his lower left leg with the help of a cage-like supporter, even if the bones disappeared 15 cm.
Nevertheless, given that thousands of Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in defenses over the last three years of war, Serhii said he was lucky.
He said in an interview: “I have a child and I became a disabled veteran in the rehabilitation clinic in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine.
“Of course, we want to provide security assurances for our country,” Serhii told CBC News.
Whether US President Donald Trump can provide these security assurances has become a survival issue for all Ukrainians, especially for those who have made huge personal sacrifices for the cause of halting Russian aggression since the invasion three years ago the person.
But so far, Trump has not helped Ukraine with what post-war help has helped. Nor does he suggest what offer he wants Russian President Vladimir Putin to make.
Putin's army now controls about 20% of Ukrainian territory, and U.S. officials have repeatedly said that Ukraine will have to ced some (or perhaps all) of them to end the war, something most Ukrainians are firmly opposed to doing.
Instead, most of Trump's public comments on the ceasefire issue are attempts to demean Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, calling him a “dictator” and criticizing his leadership and demands (criticism) Those who say “ranspell” support.

Other soldiers at the Kiev Rehabilitation Clinic said Putin would never tell the truth or do what he said.
“I think Trump's position is wrong,” said a 42-year-old soldier.
“No one who commits war crimes every day cannot be trusted.”
(As common practice, most Ukrainian soldiers are not allowed to use their full name in media interviews.)
Ukraine won't be forced to trade: Zelenskyy
Russian troops are accused of systematically killing Ukrainian war prisoners, massacre civilians in towns such as Bucha, and targeting civilian infrastructure.
The “historian” was near the front line of Ukraine's border with Russia in December when Russian drones discovered his company and dropped grenades several meters away from him. The power of the explosion shattered his ankles.
“I simply said: I expect nothing good for Ukraine [from Trump],” he said.
While Trump has not yet made clear how he views the war ending, Zelensky shared some of his insights on the motives of the U.S. president during a press conference in Kiev on Sunday.
“I think they are in the world [the Americans] They think this means the end of the war. ”He refers to the ceasefire.
“I'm even sure they think it's going to be a big success and Putin won't risk another war.”
Trump and other top U.S. officials said they expect the prospect of U.S. companies returning to Russia after economic sanctions are lifted to be a considerable driving force for Russia to end the war.
But on Sunday, the Ukrainian president said the idea would put not only his country, but also the entire Europe.
“The Russians will prepare and will move forward again,” Zelenskyy said. “It's very dangerous for everyone.”
Zelenskyy also stressed that he would be misunderstood if Trump believed he could reach an agreement with Putin and forced Ukraine to go with him.
“If there is no us, the United States… has reached an agreement with the Russians, then if we do not agree to its conditions.
U.S. President Donald Trump blamed Ukraine for not ending the war with Russia as soon as possible by reaching a deal a few years ago. The comments are in response to Ukraine's concerns over talks with Russia in Saudi Arabia.
“Manipulation” and “Lie” facing Ukraine
The rehabilitation clinic in Kiev is known as “Thank you” (in Ukraine, dyakuyu) – was founded by American American Hue Chon White who has lived in Ukraine for more than 30 years.
White and several Ukrainian veterans set up the center in 2023 to help injured soldiers transition from hospital care and then return to their homes.
“It's frustrating to be honest,” White told CBC News. “It's manipulation and lies, and how to use Ukrainians to get others.”
“I believe that the Ukrainians will continue to fight for the land and for the people, and that’s why they fight, despite what [American] The government said. ”
Ukraine said that during the past three years, when Joe Biden was president, U.S. support for the country was $183 billion, with nearly $66 billion of that was military support.
Although European countries have provided more funding in total, soldiers say that without advanced American weapons, the efforts to defend Ukraine from Russian attacks in the air and on the ground would be very difficult.
“[We use] “Historists” say everything from machine guns to grenade launchers to armored vehicles.
“When I was injured last time, I was evacuated by a U.S. Bradley vehicle.”
But among the soldiers at the clinic that talks to CBC News, it seems there is no doubt that Trump should try to include Zelenskyy in a deal with the only option to continue fighting without U.S. aid, either challenging .
“One way or another, we are ready to continue working,” the historian said, adding that he will return to the fight immediately after his ankle heals.
“This is not only my opinion, it is also what my comrades are thinking.”
