German election candidates clash with economic conflict in four-way television debate

The leading candidate to become Germany's next prime minister clashed with the country's troubled economy during a four-way television debate on Sunday.

Conservative leader Friedrich Merz's center CDU/CSU coalition led in the polls, criticizing the country's nuclear power plants closures and supply chain laws passed by Prime Minister Olaf Scholz's administration.
