Former Spanish football boss Luis Rubiales

The Spanish High Court said Thursday that without her consent, he found former football union boss Luis Rubiares committed sexual assault and sentenced more than 10,000 euros to a fine of more than 10,000 euros , but was acquitted.

Prosecutors demanded a prison sentence for Rubiares in a case that sparked debate on women's football and gender discrimination in the broader Spanish society.

“The ruling prohibits Rubiales from being within a radius of 200 meters of Hermoso and communicates with her for a year,” the court said in a statement.

Rubiales, 47, was accused of sexual assault for kissing Hermoso on the mouth. He has also been accused of joining three other former football federation officials in an attempt to force her to say the kiss was consistent at the 2023 World Cup awards ceremony in Sydney in 2023.

Hermoso's attorney did not comment immediately.
