Celebrating 10 years of perfect lovely pop culture art in Scott C

There is no misunderstanding about Scott Campbell's artwork. It's fun, colorful, and even if it looks simple, it still captures moments of pop culture nostalgia in some way. Campbell is known for his ongoing series called Great Showdowns, which we previously covered on the site. But, showdown wasn't the only thing he did. He also does large-scale works, creates books and helps design concepts, and everything is in a big epic show that is happening this weekend.

It is known as the “big show” and opens in New York City at 6 p.m. on June 7. This will be your first purchase of several new works in the original size (including the Hayao pieces by Steven Spielberg and Miyazaki below), among others. It will then be on display by June 28, and leftovers will be available online on the afternoon of June 12. Click here to get the address, hours, etc.

Basically, though, it's a show celebrating Campbell's entire work, ranging from huge, comprehensive pop culture collections to original concepts, book illustrations and more.

“I have had exhibitions in the past to celebrate my book release and various other popular culture and concept experiences, but I’ve never been to an exhibition, and I used to blend all these worlds together before,” Campbell told IO9 via email. “I’ve accumulated a lot of work from various projects over the past decade, from moving to Los Angeles to meeting my wife and building a wonderful little family. The influence of the stories and ideas of these paintings evolved with these experiences. Seeing everything on these walls roaming through these experiences, like my first graphic. It’s time to reflect on all of them.”

Below, we only have more than 100 original watercolor paintings, sculptures, prints, books, pins and more images. Several of them are new, but most of them have been released before. They just never show or sell in their original form.

The “big show” proposed by Skoke Art opened at 6 p.m. on June 7 at Harman Projects, 210 Rivington St., New York, New York. It will then be on display by June 28, with leftovers going online at 1pm on June 12. Click here for more information.
