The frustrating reasons for those horrible fake movie trailers never go away

The latest viral AI boom has quickly produced Ghibli-style art, and for clicks, the animator's craftsmanship has been torn apart. However, this technology continues to spread throughout the medium of online entertainment, including fake movie trailers. The trend began with cut clips of actors in other scenes to build a narrative, such as the upcoming Marvel Studios or DC Studios movies – In the past, film studios would have played a fan trailer that was knocked down after the Fan Faner Trailer appeared.

With the improvement of artificial intelligence, it has become increasingly popular to use the technology to create more deceptive fake trailers. Many of them have accumulated millions of followers and have been recognized by the platform as creators of fan trailers rather than “viewing” grifters, who have lifted the bank out of trolls. (We all know an uncle or an old high school classmate who shares a fake trailer, naively thinks he is a real thing.)

It is a headache for industry professionals to deal with influential websites without having to check the source. Filmmaker James Gunn often lands on his social media platforms to call out fake trailers, which include extensive shared clips called (but not) his upcoming DC Studios Superman Movie. But what exactly is the studio going to do to stop this? nothing.

In fact, it turns out that many studios actually choose to cash in fake trailers. The deadline shows that the studio is reportedly “actively cutting” from the revenue of fake AI trailer YouTube creators. Screen culture is an example given.

“Emails for deadline review show how Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) declares monetization on screen culture trailers Superman and dragon dragonTrade says. This means that WBD requires YouTube to ensure YouTube gets AD revenue from the view, rather than having copyright hit videos within 90 days (if the channel causes three strikes in 90 days). Similarly, Sony Pictures claims to earn on fake trailers Spider-Man and Craven Hunterand Paramount did the same thing in the forgery Gladiator II video. ”

Well, capitalism will get involved in capitalism, as the studio's move seems to be a mutually beneficial deal with fake trailer creators at the expense of their talents and film media. Sure, they'll get some money, or let the real trailer run right before or after, but in the real situation what drowns out the fake is what keeps people from getting out of the actual product.

Ultimately, fake trailers (cut shots with other movies, or clip shots with images produced by AI) can be quite low on a range of bad things Deepfake Technology can do. But Studios' tacit understanding allows AI to use actors' similarity (exchange Chump Changt with their changes) to normalize only the worst usage of technology in the online world. That doesn't seem important to who gets the Bucks from billions of perspectives.
