France's Macron opens up European nuclear deterrence negotiations with allies – Country

French President Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday that he would communicate with European allies to face the Russian threat and use France's nuclear deterrence to protect the African continent.
France is the only nuclear power in the EU.
In his televised speech to the country, Macron described Russia as a “threat to France and Europe” and said he had decided to “a strategic debate on our (nuclear) deterrent on our protection of our allies on the European continent.”

He said the use of France's nuclear weapons will only be retained in the hands of the French president.
EU leaders will address the issue of nuclear deterrence at a special summit in Brussels on Thursday, focusing on support for Ukraine and European Defense Ministry.
Macron also said he hopes to convince U.S. President Donald Trump not to impose tariffs on European imports. Trump threatens to impose a 25% tariff on European goods.
