South Korean expressway overpass collapsed, killing 4 people

Officials said a South Korean highway was under construction on Tuesday, killing four workers and injuring six more workers.

Ten people worked on site near Cheonan City, about 90 kilometers south of Seoul. The National Fire Service said they fell when it collapsed and was trapped in rubble.

One was found dead in rubble. Eight injured workers were taken to the hospital, and two of them were pronounced dead. According to fire department officials, the 10th worker who was missing for several hours was eventually found dead.

The firefighting agency said in a statement that the five people remained in serious condition.

The reason for the crash is not yet known.

Acting President Choi sang a propaganda and urged the authorities to mobilize all available personnel and equipment to save workers. About 50 fire trucks, three helicopters and about 150 personnel were carried out to rescue work.
