Members of the Gainesville Police Department and the Arachi County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of an active shooter at the Walmart parking lot of Butler North Mall.
According to a GPD press release, officials responded to Walmart at 2900 SE 42nd Street in response to reports of “suspicious activity.”
“In addition, witnesses reported that the tow truck/vehicle in the parking lot heard gunshots. The subject blocked himself in the trailer,” the release said.
Walmart and its surrounding businesses have been withdrawn.
According to the press release, although “it has been confirmed that the shooting was from the subject”, no injuries have been reported.
“We urge communities to avoid the area until further notified for their safety and first responders' safety,” the release said.
The Sheriff's Office reported at 1:05 p.m. that the scene was still “very active”.
The Sheriff’s Office released after 11 a.m., “This incident really poses a threat to people in the area and we ask everyone to stay away from the location as officials and representatives try to resolve the incident safely.”
