Giannis Antetokounmpo says he will end basketball career in Greece

Giannis Antetokounmpo has made it clear that when his NBA journey ends, he will no longer be in the NBA.

The Bucks superstar revealed that he plans to return to his country to play for the Greek team before officially hanging up his boots.

Antetokounmpo said he's already thinking about how to end his career, speaking on ANT1's The 2Night Show via BasketNews.

“I'm 30 years old and I can play in the NBA until I'm 36-38. I want to end my career with a Greek team, why not?” he said. “I don't want to live in the United States. Once I leave the NBA, I want to go back to Greece.

“I can end my career here, whether the team is called Filathlitikos, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos or Aris, I'm talking about all teams now.”

The 30-year-old was selected 15th overall in the 2013 draft and has spent his entire 12-year NBA career in Milwaukee.

Before that, he played for Greek club Filathlitikos, a club he mentioned in his farewell game.

The two-time MVP and 2021 NBA champion averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds and 6.5 assists last season, reaffirming his place among the league's elite.

Despite trade rumors swirling in recent years, including reports of conversations with the New York Knicks, Giannis shut down those rumors and reaffirmed his current commitment to Milwaukee.

“I've said it many times, I want to be in a position to win, and now I'm here. I believe in this team,” he said earlier this month.

Still, the striker admits his mentality may change over time.

“Now, if I change my mind in six or seven months, I think that's human nature,” he added.

Antetokounmpo will turn 31 in December, and he still has a few dominant seasons left. But when the moment finally came, he sounded certain of one thing, that his final chapter would be written back home in Greece.
