Earlier Wednesday, the Cardinal held the final mass at St. Peter's Basilica, led by Cardinal Dean Giovanni Battisa Re.
“We are here to invoke the help of the Holy Spirit and imploring His light and strength so that the Pope is elected to be the church and mankind need him at this difficult and complex turning point in history,” Re told the Cardinal. “This is also a strong call to maintain the unity of the church…this unity does not mean unity, but a firm and profound exchange in diversity.”
Ray said the Cardinal should pray for “a pope who knows how to best awaken the conscience of all and the moral and spiritual energy in today’s society, characterized by huge technological advances but tendency to forget God. The world today expects a lot from the church, from which people do not bring any better people and better futures without humanity.
Following the gatherings at the Apostles Palace, the most diverse voters ever made from at least 70 different countries, paraded from the palace’s Pauline Chapel into the adjacent Sistine Chapel, where it will be held.
