Lemon8 and Tiktok can be banned. This is the different way the application is
Tiktok faces another sales deadline on Saturday, and the app could disappear unless U.S. buyers intervene – or President Donald Trump once again extended the deadline. If the ban goes into effect, Tiktok will not be the only app that disappears: Tiktok's sister app Lemon8 may be caught in a firefight.

Lemon8 is owned by BONTEDANCE, the same parent company that owns Tiktok. It is one of the most important lifestyle apps in the Apple App Store, and it has over 10 million downloads in the Google Play Store.
The app reads in both stores: “Lemon8 is a dedicated app for the lifestyle community powered by Tiktok where you can discover and share real content on a variety of topics like beauty, fashion, travel, food, and more.”

What is Lemon 8?
Lemon8 posts can contain text to help with object tags in posts.
Lemon8 is a video and photo sharing platform that avoids Tiktok's vertical scrolling format to adopt the Pinterest board format. But what Lemon8 and Tiktok have in common is that there are both followers and your hashtags that show you posts from the creators you follow and posts that the app thinks you will like.
Lemon8's content is divided into six theme tabs, plus the seventh tab all. The other tabs are Fashion,,,,, beauty,,,,, food,,,,, healthy,,,,, travel and Home. You can find these tags at the top of the screen and tap into them to display your recommended and suggested posts.
Posts can be swipable collections of photos, such as in Instagram or Tiktok-style videos. Some creators add text to their photos to mark out clothing or products. Some will also include the price of the item in the text.
How is Lemon8 different from Tiktok and other apps?
Lemon8 is different from other applications in terms of what is published and how it is presented.
Lemon8 has a lot of influential advertising and product advice. It's hard to tell what is and is not sponsored content, which seems to be the specification of the entire application. Tiktok also has sponsored content, but is usually marked in the lower left corner.
The meme doesn't seem to be caught in Lemon 8.
There aren't many memes or jokes on Lemon8 compared to other apps. You can find memes on Lemon8, but various hashtags related to “memes” such as “Funnymemes” and “Catmemes” are less than 1 million times (rather than hundreds of millions on Instagram). This may be because Lemon8 is still attracted in the US, but my suspicion is that Lemon8 is not for memes. It means more guides to help you achieve a certain lifestyle or aesthetic.
Lemon8 also has a lot of writing. For example, posting subtitles may include instructions for recipes or deeper clothing glitches. Tiktok subtitles can have useful information, but these subtitles are more about connecting posts to hashtags for more views and don't necessarily add new information to Tiktok posts. Lemon8 uses subtitles in a similar way to Instagram posts, but Lemon8 subtitles have a key difference from Instagram: templates.

Lemon8 reminds me of a mashup between Martha Stewart Living, Muscle & Farthness and Travel + Leisure. You can find some useful tips in Lemon8 to help you achieve the aesthetic you need or find some holiday inspiration, but it's not clear what's not an ad.
What do people say about Lemon8?
So far, people's reaction to Lemon8 seems to be positive. A Tiktok creator posted a video calling Lemon8 “Pinterest, but interactive”. Another said Lemon8 is a combination of Pinterest, Instagram and Tiktok.
However, this enthusiasm may be artificially inflated. ZDNET reports that many Tiktok posts about Lemon8 describe the app in similar languages, leading some to believe Bytedance paid to these creators.
Some Lemon8 creators' claims make the theory sound more feasible. A Lemon8 creator told Insider that Bytedance paid them to publish the app. Two other Lemon8 creators gave insider emails outlining the application's payment structure.
Who owns Lemon 8?
Bytedance, a Chinese technology company that owns Tiktok, also owns Lemon8. According to ZDNET, Bytedance positioned Lemon8 as Instagram competitor as more users stop using or abandoning Meta's apps.
Meta's internal memo leak showed Instagram participation was declining, according to the Wall Street Journal. Bytedance executives may want to take advantage of this by providing alternative apps for Instagram users in the form of Lemon8. Although Lemon8 was released globally in 2020, the app's recent growth may indicate that Bytedance's gambling is paying off.
Will Lemon8 be banned with Tiktok?
Since Lemon8 is owned by Bytedance, which also owns Tiktok, the app may be banned along with Tiktok on April 5.
The law that requires the sale of Tiktok generally applies to other applications owned and operated by Bondedance and its subsidiaries. When Tiktok closed operations in the U.S. in January, the Lemon8 closed side by side with the app. Lemon8 may also do it if Tiktok is turned off again.
Should you download Lemon8?
Even if the shutdown is imminent, Lemon8 is free, so you can download and try the app before the sales deadline. Just learn more about the app’s posts than meme sharing, and many posts feel like ads.
What is Lemon8's Privacy Policy?

Most of Lemon8's privacy policies seem to be the standard standard for social media applications. It points out that Lemon8 collects personal and location information to provide you with a better app experience. Some of the information collected includes your IP address and browsing history. But part of the app's privacy policy may draw attention.
The policy reads: “The personal information we collect from you may be stored on servers outside the country where you live.” Under the policy, the company has servers around the world, so your information can be stored in any of them.
This is different from how Lemon8's Sister App Tiktok stores some user data. The company will store user data based on the United States in Oracle servers. Tiktok CEO Shou Chew said China’s Bytedance employees have access to this data, but are supervised by “strong cybersecurity controls and authorization approvals” overseen by the U.S. security team.
