Zelensky urges stricter sanctions on Russia as air strikes continue

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky updated on Saturday to impose stronger sanctions on Russia, stressing the need to protect lives and defend air defenses in response to ongoing attacks.

Russia reportedly carried out air strikes in a mining town in eastern Ukraine, which reportedly killed at least 11 people late Friday, Zelensky wrote on Facebook: “This attack shows that Russia's target has not changed.”

“That is why it is crucial that we continue to do our best to protect our lives, strengthen air defense measures and strengthen sanctions on Russia.”

After a recent suspension of U.S. military aid to Ukraine, experts believe Russian President Vladimir Putin has seized the opportunity to accelerate his war goals.

A key goal is to adequately control the disputed areas of Donetsk, Luhansk, Helsen and Zaporizhia, which are still partially occupied by Russian forces.
