The IRS wants to reimburse California taxpayers $92 million. Are you qualified?

According to the IRS, Californians may be cashed if they fail to complete their previous year’s tax returns by next month.
The IRS is currently continuing about $92.3 million, ready to spread among the 116,300 state taxpayers who have not filed their 2021 tax.
Returns must be submitted by April 15. According to the IRS, the median refund for the estimated return is $600.
How to know if you are eligible
Californians can use the IRS2GO mobile app to verify eligibility, check their refund status, pay and find free tax services, according to the IRS.
Low to middle-income workers may also be eligible for income tax credit, which is a refundable tax deduction. If you meet certain requirements, have children or other dependents and/or disability, the refund credit will be increased.
In 2021, the EITC for eligible child taxpayers is $6,728.
To check if you are eligible, use the EITC Assistant, which will ask a series of questions to determine eligibility. The questionnaire does not require sensitive personal information, such as your name, social security number, address or bank account number.
What happens if you miss the deadline
If the taxpayer does not file before the April deadline, any unclaimed refunds will become the property of the U.S. Treasury Department.
If you owe the IRS, don’t pay child support, or should have paid on a student loan in the past, the refund amount can also be reduced. If you have not filed a 2022 or 2023 tax return, you can also book the currency.
How to get key files
The IRS urges taxpayers to collect past documents in large quantities before the deadline, as it may take weeks to ensure that.
Here is how to access important tax documents to submit taxes in 2021:
- Create an IRS online account that allows you to view, download or print tax return records and transcripts of past returns, account information, salary and profit statements, and more. Remember that the transcript is not a photocopy of past tax returns. To get a copy, submit Form 4506 to the IRS.
- Taxpayers may request copies of missing forms from their employer, bank, or salary service provider, such as W-2, W-4, 1098, 1099 or 5498. If you cannot access the form through your employer, you can ask for a transcript to be mailed to you, which may take five to 10 calendars to arrive. Since the request will require you to provide sensitive information, the IRS recommends that you close your internet browser immediately after submission.
- Requests can also be made by calling the agency’s automated telephone transcript service at (800) 908-9946.
