Berlin ranks first in violence at German railway stations

German police had the largest number of violence in 2024 at all railway stations in the country at Berlin Central Railway Station.

According to the DPA's response from the federal government to the German far-right Alternative Program (AFD) parliamentary group, 764 cases were 620 cases in the previous year.

For Dortmund's main site, statistics show 735 incidents, Hannover's main site 715 and Cologne's main site 703.

According to statistics, the total number of violent incidents at German railway stations rose from 25,640 in 2023 to 27,160 last year.

The number of sexual offences increased from 1,898 to 2,262 during the year, while property damage increased from 30,961 to 32,671.

In the area of drug-related crime, there were 10,174 cases in 2024, 18,382 fewer cases than the previous year. The reason for the reduction was not specified. Since April 2024, partial legalization of marijuana has been established.

These figures are based on statistics introduced by police, which record crimes when police are recognized by police. This means there is a dark number.

However, it should be noted that it took several weeks to travel by train due to the European Football Championship last summer.

“Train stations and trains become places of fear, seriously affecting the public's sense of safety and should not be permanent,” Alexander Thlom, an interior spokesman for the conservative faction in the German parliament, told Deer Welt.

“Train stations were once a encounter of mobility and peace, increasingly becoming an area that they wouldn't go to,” AFD MP Martin Hess said in a statement.

At the Central Station in Dortmund, there were 53 cases of sexual offences reported last year. Next is the main site in Frankfurt, where there are 40 and 40 hamburgers. In 2023, Cologne's Central Station committed 57 crimes.

The AFD's inquiry also requested information about the origin of the suspect. Hess's party is strongly anti-immigrant, saying: “In many areas of crime, foreigners are disproportionate among suspects.”
