Sigma's latest camera is so minimalist, it doesn't have a memory card slot

Sigma announced the BF, a new 24.6-megapixel full-frame, mirrorless camera with built-in SSD instead of CFExpress or SD card slot. The company is known for making lenses and unconventional cameras, and the BF's design and unique storage method are definitely suitable for the bill.

The Sigma BF is milled from an aluminum block and looks flat with flat corner edges that don't seem to be completely designed for human hands except for the thumbs on the back. This is part of the BF's intentional minimalist approach, which extends to the lack of text on the camera's body and the camera's tactile buttons. In addition to thumb rest, the BF has a high-resolution display, a pill-like status monitor that highlights any settings you are adjusting, dialing, option buttons, power buttons, and play buttons for navigation menus. The top of the BF is simpler: there are only two microphones and a shutter button.

The BF is compatible with LA-Mount lenses, and at the top of the photo, its 35mm full-frame sensor can capture 6K video and supports HEVC encoded and recorded content for up to 120 frames per second. Sigma says the built-in 230GB SSD in BF is “capable of storing over 14,000 JPEG files, 4,300 uncompressed raw images or 2.5 hours of video at the highest quality settings.” Like a large number of modern mirrorless cameras, the BF also has several different color modes that adjust the appearance of the photo. Options include standard and rich modes, as well as color-specific settings such as pink, forest green and sunset red.

All of this sounds cool in theory, especially if you are interested in a camera with a trait-designed design, but you have to be willing to pay for it. Petapixel The Sigma BF will be available for sale in April 2025 for $1,999, either in black or silver.
