Colorado School District sues Trump administrator for fear of ice attacks on campus

Colorado's largest public school district is the first in the United States to sue the Trump administration for fear of ice attacks on school grounds.

Denver Public Schools filed a federal lawsuit against DHS and DHS secretary Kristi Noem for its decision to remove policies that use schools and other areas such as churches as sensitive locations, thus limiting immigration enforcement.

The policy was formulated in 2011 by former President Barack Obama.

The school system believes that revoking the policy has caused schools to spend time and resources to teach students and employees how to avoid security from immigration enforcement.

“DP is subject to its mission to avoid providing education and life services to students attending DPS schools, for fear of immigration enforcement actions taken on DPS schools grounds,” the lawsuit states. ”

The school system also believes that attendance has dropped significantly since its decision.

Donald Trump, who insisted on his campaign promise to expel the public from illegal foreigners, lifted restrictions shortly after taking office last month.

Since January 20, ICE has illegally arrested and deported thousands of people – most of whom are convicted criminals in the United States or their home country. Trump's border tsar Tom Homan has been leading the charge and repeatedly said that ice is following “the worst, first.”

The lawsuit aims to get the Trump administration to hope to resume policies that prohibit immigration enforcement activities from being held in schools, although there is no ice attack on school reasons.

Denver Public Schools have trained staff on how they handle ICE officials if they show up at the school and told them to deny their entry if there is no warrant signed by the judge.

“Parents across Denver recruit children in public schools, who believe that when they are in school, their children will be educated and enriched without having to worry about the government enforcing immigration laws in these places,” the lawsuit said.

The lawsuit also noted that during the 2023-2024 school year, there were more than 90,000 students and about 4,000 immigrants in the Denver public school system.

The lawsuit says Denver has seen a massive increase in population in recent years as the city predicts that nearly 43,000 people have arrived in the area from the southern border.
