A minister suggested that businesses would be asked to resolve the UK's disease crisis and return people with health conditions to work.

Sir Stephen Timms told MPs on Wednesday that he wanted to study “there are more things that actual employers can do” to help people with illness and disabilities work because the current government support system is not sustainable.

The proposal sparked immediate opposition from commercial groups that have been hit by record tax attacks and faced additional traditional Chinese tape under the government's worker rights plan.

Minister for Disability Sir Stephen said: “The situation is not good enough at the moment.

“I think we need to do some pretty big reforms to visit the work and look at the whole approach we’re taking again. See if employers can do more.

“Employers have a legal obligation to adjust reasonably. I wonder if we can do more things there.”

Sir Stephen warned that the government was working to keep up with the demand for work plans, which could allow claimants to spend up to £69,000 a year on equipment, professional software, job search coaches and transportation to support their employment.

Public spending on the scheme soared to 40% in 2022-23, reaching £258 million.

According to the Office of National Statistics (ONS), since the pandemic began and totaled 2.8 million, the number of unemployed people due to long-term illness has increased by 695,000.

Sir Stephen said: “I think there is a big problem here. And I think the current working style is unlikely to be sustainable in the long run. Given the current demand is very high, we have to come up with better, more Effective question.”

The company is already working with Ms Reeves' employer National Insurance to add £2.5 billion, which will begin in April. They also have to pay an additional £4.5 billion a year to comply with Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner’s Right to Employment Act, which includes plans to cancel the zero-hour contract for exploitation.

“The government minister told businesses that it was a little rich to tell businesses to do more to help people get to work after they unleashed the biggest tax and legislative attacks on businesses in modern history.

“If they want to help employers get more people to work, then giving up the disastrous employment rights bill would be a good start.”

There is no way more government cash to relieve stress in the system.
