Bruins sign first-rounder Hagans for AHL tryout TheAHL.com

Boston Bruins sign forward James Hagens Signed an amateur tryout agreement with the Providence Bruins of the AHL.

“We are excited for James to join the Bruins and take the next step,” general manager said Don Sweeney. “James is a big part of our future and this is a great opportunity for him to gain immediate professional-level experience in Providence and continue to develop.”

The 19-year-old Hagans was selected by Boston with the seventh overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft. As a sophomore, he led the Eastern Hockey League in scoring with 47 points (23 goals, 24 assists) in 34 games this season at Boston College. In the 2024-25 season, Hagans was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team after scoring 37 points in 37 games.

A native of Hauppauge, New York, Hagans represented the United States at two IIHF World Junior Championships (2025, 2026) and two IIHF U-18 Men's World Championships (2023, 2024), winning gold medals at the 2025 World Junior Championship and 2023 U-18 events.
