LaVar adds two-time Calder Cup winner Sheppard TheAHL.com

Montreal Canadiens acquire goaltender Hunter Shepard and forward Jack Chiason Acquired from Ottawa Senators for Forward Riley kidney.

In a related deal, Belleville Senators acquire linebacker Ryan O'Rourke From Laval Rocket for future consideration.

Shepard has appeared in 15 games for Belleville this season and has a record of 6 wins, 7 draws and 2 losses, with a goals against average of 3.65 and a save percentage of 0.885.

Sheppard won back-to-back Calder Cup championships with the Hershey Bears, won the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy for the 2023 playoff MVP, and the Aldeji “Buzz” Bastian Award for the AHL's outstanding goaltender in 2023-24.

In 133 AHL career games with Hershey and Belleville, Sheppard compiled an 84-33-14 record, a 2.38 GAA, a .910 save percentage and 11 saves. He compiled a 30-17 record (2.44, .909) in 47 Calder Cup playoff games.

Chiasson has one assist in 20 games with Belleville this season and two goals and six assists in 14 ECHL games with Allen. The third-year pro has appeared in 40 AHL games with Belleville and Bakersfield.

Keaney spent the majority of the 2025-26 season with Trois-Rivières (ECHL), tallying 11 goals and 22 assists in 46 games. He also has one assist in six games with Laval.

In three professional seasons, Keaney totaled 11 goals and 26 assists for 37 points in 127 AHL games with the Rockets.

O'Rourke has two assists in nine games with Laval and one goal in 11 games with Trois-Rivières this season.

In 238 AHL games over five career seasons, O'Rourke had six goals and 36 assists for 42 points with Laval and Iowa.
