LeBron James reflects on end of historic winning streak

One of the most unbreakable records in LeBron James' career came to a quiet end, and fittingly, it happened in a win.
James' streak of 1,297 consecutive games with at least 10 points was broken during the Los Angeles Lakers' victory over the Toronto Raptors when he scored just eight points on the night. Instead of forcing a shot at the last moment to maintain the winning streak, James made the most important judgment and found Rui Hachimura for the winning three-pointer.
“I'm a guy who sits on the bench and I love looking at the stat sheet,” James said on Steve Nash's “Mind the Game” podcast. “I love watching my shots out there and I love being super efficient. I'd be lying if I said I didn't know how many points I was going to score at any given moment in the game, but I've never been in a game during a scoring streak where I said, 'Okay, I've got to get 10 points. I've got to keep this streak going.'” It was a disservice to me and the way I played the game. It shows how the way I've been playing has ended this streak. “
The momentum has narrowly avoided danger before. James recalled a moment early in his career when an injury nearly ended his career in a game.
“I mean, there were definitely some close calls. I believe, I had a season where, I don't know if it's 2021, '22, '20, I don't know coming out of the bubble. Even at that point in my career, I played like a pro. Some of the best basketball in my career, we were playing against Atlanta and my leg rolled up. Whenever I rolled my ankle or my leg rolled up or whatever it was I was like, 'Okay, you feel it, but let's tighten the shoe a little bit and get going.'”
